Character History[]
Zhang Kai was the Hero Piece given to Tao Qin. He is loyal to his lord, but attempts to incite him into using his abilities for greater wealth, i.e. criminal activities. As his bat motif suggests, he prefers to sleep during the day and be awake at night, which proved to be a problem when Cao Cao attacked his lord in the middle of the day. After Tao Qin was hit by a feather dart that changed his personality, Zhang Kai went along until they were defeated. As he turned to stone, he told Liu Bei that his boss was really a good person, who had refused his attempts to get him to steal and that it was the feather that caused the trouble.
Personality[]
Zhang Kai was not shown often enough to reveal much of his personality. He was shown to both be loyal to his lord and to not care about the law that much. In his last moments, he seemed to express genuine affection for his boss.

Like all Hero Pieces, Zhang Kai is sustained by the strength of his lord's dream and his willingness to fight for that dream. If his lord's will waivers or his dream is not strong enough, Zhang Kai loses his strength, resulting in not only their combined form losing power, but also rendering them unable to combine at all or even Zhang Kai starving to death. If his lord is defeated, Zhang Kai will also be destroyed unless he makes a new contract with a new lord.
