Die Silbermaske (シルバー假面, Shirubā Kamen, lit. "The Silver Mask") is a 2006 tokusatsu movie distributed by Geneon Entertainment. It was released to the public in 2006 and as a three-volume DVD series in 2007.

Overview[]

It is a remake of the tokusatsu TV drama Silver Kamen that aired from 1971 to 1972[note 1]. Produced based on Mamoru Sasaki's manuscript. The staff from original series, such as Akio Jissoji, was participated again. This is Geneon Entertainment's first live-action tokusatsu work produced in-house.

With the intention of Jissoji to make something that has no connection with the old work, such as the stage of the Taisho era with a woman as the main character, the contents have changed significantly. Director Akio Jissoji died soon after suffering a stomach cancer and was sick after screening this movie. Therefore, this work is a legacy of Jissoji[note 2].

Plot[]

In Tokyo in 1920 (Taisho 9), a series of strange murders of beautiful women occurred one after another. Japanese Army captain Yoshiaki Hongo (本郷 義昭, Hongō Yoshiaki) (the protagonist of Minetaro Yamanaka's military adventure novel), who received the esoteric order of these investigations from intelligence agencies, visited the Dante theater in Asakusa with his friend Taro Hirai (平井 太郎, Hirai Tarō) (later known as novelist Edogawa Ranpo). During the investigation, they met with the beautiful Japanese-German half named Sabine (ザビーネ, Zabīne).

However, an evil spider-type alien attacks Hongo there. Soon after, Sabine transforms into a silver superhuman, Silver Kamen, with the The Ring of the Nibelung (ニーベルンゲンの指輪, Nīberungen no Yubiwa), and defeat the aliens.

Sabine tells Hongo and his family that she was born between a German mother, Ellis (エリス, Erisu), and a literary writer, Ogai Mori (森鷗外, Mori Ōgai), and came from Germany in search of his unseen father with a sad past. The ring used by Sabine for transformation is said to have the power to undermine humanity.

In this mesmerizing city, the battle of silvery beautiful female warriors and young elite soldiers, with Dr. Caligari (カリガリ博士, Karigari Hakase) and his monsters and aliens, as well as a steel androids, has now begin.
