Dennou Keisatsu Cybercop (電脳警察サイバーコップ, Dennō Keisatsu Saibākoppu, Computer Police Cybercops) is a Japanese tokusatsu TV series. First created in 1988 by Toho Enterprises, the show was an attempt to create a Tokusatsu series using the Super SentaiIcon-crosswiki motif, but the idea was dropped after the unaired episode 0. The show was broadcast on NTV and aired from October 2, 1988 to July 5, 1989.

Plot[]

In the year 1999, crime has overrun the city of Tokyo. Hopelessly outmanned and outgunned, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Force decides to set up a special task force to combat the dire situation. Codenamed “ZAC” (Zero-Section Armed Constable), this police department is designed for special missions and its members are known as "Cybercops". For this cause, the police scientists developed the "Bit Suits", three high-powered armors outfitted with the latest technology: Mars, Saturn and Mercury. In the first episode, a mysterious young man, Shinya Takeda, appears from nowhere and saves the day after using his own armor, the Jupiter Bit Suit. Following his victory, he joins ZAC, which starts to battle the evil organization Death Trap, ruled by Baron Kageyama, which manages to use the computers' will-power to gain world domination.

As the battles against the enemies progress, Jupiter's mysterious powers increase bit by bit and reveals a secret: he was found unconscious by the Interpol wearing his armor. Shinya Takeda is an amnesiac: he cannot remember who he is and what he did. In spite of this, he receives the support and friendship of the other ZAC members (except for Akira Hojo, the wielder of Mars Bit and ZAC's field commander, who is jealous and distrustful of Takeda).

The friendship and the union among the ZAC members grow more and more as they defeat powerful enemies until the appearance of Lucifer, another mystery man donning similar powered armor who hates Jupiter. Allied with Death Trap, Lucifer has more advanced and powerful weapons than those from ZAC. He is the first enemy that can defeat Jupiter and the other Cybercops. In fact, he almost kills Jupiter.

During the battles against ZAC, Lucifer reveals why he hates Jupiter: according to him, the both came from the future and were allies in the war between humankind and the computers, but Jupiter supposedly betrayed the humans. Because of his amnesia, Takeda does not know if what Lucifer says is true or not, so he decides to fight him to death. In the middle of their duel, however, Jupiter remembers the truth: there were actually three men who came form the future; the third one was Baron Kageyama, one of Death Trap'smembers in the present and the real traitor. From then on, Lucifer becomes an ally of ZAC, without formally joining the team, only helping the Cybercops from time to time. In fact, he often shows up in time to turn things around for ZAC when they are facing defeat.

After countless battles, threats and dangers, ZAC and Lucifer finally defeat Baron Kageyama, who dies in a fiery explosion. In his final moments, Kageyama reveals his true purpose: to ensure that the world would be ruled by AI in order to avoid an environmental collapse. The explosion also makes a time-travelling tube appear, leading to the future. Thus, Jupiter and Lucifer return to their proper time and ZAC officer Tomoko Uesugi (who had fallen in love with Takeda) decides to join them. The world is safe thanks to ZAC.
